Una tortuga dorada apareció en el sureste de Nepal y los habitantes de la zona lo tomaron como la encarnación del dios hindú Vishnú, venerado por el hinduismo.
El avistamiento del reptil de la especie «Lissemys punctata andersoni» fue reportado a la organización proteccionista «Mithila Wildlife Trust».
Según indicaron los expertos, su particular pigmentación se debe a una rara mutación genética. La condición lleva el nombre de leucismo cromático.
Por su parte, el experto en reptiles de la Asociación de Toxinología de Nepal, Kamal Devkota, explicó que ese tipo de tortugas tienen un gran valor religioso y culturas en ese país por la creencia de que el dios Vishnú tomó la forma de ese animal para salvar al universo de la destrucción.
«Este es mi primer encuentro con este color inusual de tortuga y solo en quinto en la especie en todo el mundo», sostuvo.
«En la mitología hindú, el caparazón superior de la tortuga denota el cielo y el inferior la tierra«, concluyó.
