“Empecé a trabajar a los 14 años juntando aserrín”. 

Nahuel López Matheu habló de sus orígenes humildes en la carpintería familiar y contó cómo lo afectó la fama repentina.

“Llegué al programa con el objetivo de sacar el lingote. Pero siempre veía que Bautista (Araneo) y Wolfgang desafiaban a los famosos en las dominadas. Así que se me ocurrió decirle a Guido Kazcka, con todo respeto, que en algún momento me dejara desafiarlos a los chicos. ‘Yo te los limpio’, le dije. Él no se lo esperaba, pero lo habló con la producción y después me dijo que me veía con energía como para estar con ellos en el piso. Entonces me dio para elegir con quien armar mi dupla y yo opté por Hernán Drago. Y así arrancó esta aventura”, cuenta Nahuel López Matheu, más conocido como El Carpintero de Bienvenidos a Bordo.

—Inventaste un juego nuevo, en el que el público compite tratando de superarte…

—Claro. Desde ese momento empezaron a llegar chicos que venían a desafiarme y yo, con la ayuda de alguno de los integrantes del programa, empecé a sumar un premio en efectivo. Pero esto es algo que comenzó conmigo.

—Y, de un día para el otro, te convertiste en un personaje famoso. ¿Cómo afectó esto tu vida?

—La verdad es que me sorprendió que Guido me pidiera que siguiera yendo. Pero me fui dejando llevar. Y, a medida que iban pasando los días y yo iba ganando los desafíos, se fue generando algo hermoso. Yo le tengo que agradecer a Drago, que es un gran compañero y una gran persona, todo lo que me ayudó en el comienzo. Me acompañaba, me aconsejaba, me tranquilizaba…Y estaba siempre alentándome con esa famosa arenga. Pero sí, a la semana, ya empecé a recibir el amor de la gente en la calle.

—¿Y qué te dicen?

—Destacan que soy un pibe humilde y tranquilo, y que estoy siempre con una sonrisa. Me cuentan que están a la expectativa, esperando que yo gane cada desafío. Qué a veces los chicos se acuestan más tarde sólo por verme a mí. O que los viejos no quieren cambiar de canal esperando al Carpintero.

—¿Qué te pasa a vos cuando salís a la calle y, de repente, te das cuenta de que todo el mundo te conoce?

—¡Wow! Lo primero que hago es agradecer. La gente me agradece a mí porque dice que le trasmito alegría. Pero es un ida y vuelta de amor y lo mejor es que es muy espontáneo. Así que ya lo vivo como algo natural. Y la verdad es que me da una enorme satisfacción, porque no estoy haciendo ningún personaje. El que se ve en la tele, ese soy yo.

—Es que, justamente, lo que genera empatía es el hecho de que un laburante haya logrado llegar a ese lugar…

—Tal cual. Y tanto la gente como la producción, y hasta te diría que yo mismo, se sorprende con la frescura que tengo al aire y cómo me manejo frente a cámara. Porque yo nunca antes había estado en la tele ni en nada relacionado a los medios. Soy un pibe que labura con la familia en una carpintería, que tira para adelante y que, de pronto, se encontró con todo esto. Pero que, fuera del programa, sigue con su vida cotidiana de siempre.

—O sea que no es que sos actor o modelo y aprovechaste el programa ganar popularidad…

—No, nada que ver. Nunca estuvo en mi proyecto, ni siquiera cuando era chico. Jamás hice una producción de fotos, tampoco estudié teatro. Nada. Soy un pibe de barrio que trabaja con su familia. Le estamos metiendo a la carpintería todos los días. Y hoy, a pesar de estar en el programa, sigo con eso porque ahí está mi origen, mi eje y mi estabilidad. Obviamente, disfruto de todo lo que me está pasando. Pero, fundamentalmente, valoro el hecho de que se me abrieron muchas más puertas para seguir trabajando, porque ahora la gente me conoce un poco más. Y hoy, cualquiera que necesita un carpintero, piensa en mí.

—¿Eso significa que potenciaste el negocio familiar?

—Exacto, porque me empezaron a seguir en mi cuenta de Instagram, @nahumetheu y en la comercial, @carpinteriamatheu. Mi viejo, Héctor, arrancó con la carpintería hace unos treinta y cinco años, más o menos. Y mi hermano Patricio, que hoy tiene 29, y yo, que tengo 31, éramos muy chicos cuando empezamos a trabajar con él. Antes de eso, mi papá tenía una empresa constructora en la que cubría todos los rubros: electricidad, plomería, instalaciones de gas…Pero, después, se dedicó de lleno a la maderera.

—¿Y a qué edad aprendiste vos el oficio?

—A los 14 o 15 años, más o menos. Yo iba al colegio a la mañana y, por la tarde, mi viejo me venía a buscar para que fuera a ayudarlo a la carpintería. Pintaba maderitas, juntaba el aserrín…Pero, cuando cumplí los 18, mi papá se operó de la cintura y no me quedó más remedio que tomar una mayor responsabilidad en el negocio.

—¿Tuviste que hacerte cargo?

—Claro. Por decirlo de alguna manera, ahí tuve que madurar de golpe para ocupar el lugar de mi viejo hasta que él se recuperara. Mi papá tardó por lo menos diez meses en volver a la carpintería, porque le tuvieron que poner una prótesis. Así que yo me tuve que ocupar de todo. Pero después volvió. Y, cuando mi hermano cumplió la mayoría de edad y se sumó a nosotros, decidimos abrir una sucursal más. Así que hoy ellos están en el local de Remedios de Escalada y yo, en el de Adrogué.

—Pregunto, ¿esta era tu vocación o vos tenías otros planes para tu vida?

—La verdad es que, como yo lo acompañé desde chico a mi viejo en esto de diseñar, proyectar, crear y armar, siempre quise ir por ese lado. De hecho, empecé a estudiar Diseño Industrial en la Universidad de Lanús y llegué a la tecnicatura. Y eso me ayudó a leer planos y a abrir un poco más la mente. Pero lo hice para aplicarlo a la carpintería.

—Me hablaste de tu padre, de quien heredaste el oficio. ¿Y tu mamá?

—Mis viejos están separados. Y mi mamá, Paula, está en pareja y trabaja en lo suyo. Yo me independicé hace unos cinco años, pero me llevo muy bien con los dos.

—¿Tenés novia?

—Sí, ya hace un año que vivo con ella. Se llama Natalia y es una mujer increíble.

—¿Cómo vivió ella este proceso que se generó con tu llegada a los medios?

—La verdad es que fue un cambio rotundo en nuestras vidas. Nosotros veníamos con una rutina en la cual a la mañana cada uno se iba a su trabajo, nos encontrábamos por la tarde, después yo me iba a entrenar y ella, por ahí, se iba a visitar a su familia, pero a la noche estábamos juntos. Ahora, en cambio, yo salgo de la carpintería, me voy a grabar y recién nos vemos a última hora del día. Pero creo que todo se da por algo.

—¿A qué te referís?

—A que me tocó una compañera excelente. Tengo una mujer que me acompaña y de la que estoy totalmente orgulloso. Porque, al principio, el cambio fue muy brusco. Sin embargo, ella siempre estuvo firme al pie del cañón.

—Para la gente que no es del medio a veces es difícil entender todo lo que la fama implica…

—Por supuesto. Al no ser del ambiente ninguno de los dos, fue raro salir a la calle y que la gente se empezara a juntar para saludarme. Por ahí íbamos a tomar algo y empezaban: “¡El Carpintero!”. Y ni yo mismo no estaba preparado para eso. Pero ella es una piba de barrio como yo y hasta se prende a sacarme fotos cuando alguien se lo pide. Así que me tengo que sacar el sombrero por la mujer que tengo conmigo.

—Cualquier otra podría haberse puesto celosa…

—Es que el cambio es muy fuerte. No sólo es la exposición de la tele, sino también la de las redes sociales en donde todo el mundo comenta cosas. Así que ella tiene que tener mucha seguridad. Pero yo también tengo un respeto muy grande hacia ella. Yo la veo y me imagino el futuro a su lado. Y tengo muy en claro que mi realidad es mi familia, mis amigos, mi trabajo y mi novia.

—Hay muchos que, apenas empiezan a ser conocidos, dejan de tener los pies en la Tierra.

—Exacto. Pero yo lo tengo muy presente. Me pone muy contento todo lo que estoy viviendo en el programa y lo que pasa con la gente. Porque la verdad es que todo el mundo me tira muy buena vibra. A mí me bancan abuelos, padres e hijos y es hermoso. Pero no por eso dejo de visitar a la gente que quiero ni descuido mi trabajo. Doy todo de mí cada noche en la tele, pero sin marearme ni olvidarme de dónde vengo.

—Es probable que a partir de ahora te lleguen nuevas propuestas para seguir en los medios. ¿Te gustaría hacer algo más?

—Sí. Obviamente, mi objetivo ahora está puesto en seguir ganando en las dominadas. Pero si me me abren nuevas oportunidades en el mundo del modelaje, el teatro o la televisión, estoy dispuesto a aceptarlas. De todas formas, no voy a dejar de trabajar en la carpintería. Y el premio de Bienvenidos a Bordo lo voy a usar para darme algún gusto pero, fundamentalmente, para invertir en el negocio.

—¿Qué pasa hoy cuando llegás a una casa a instalar un mueble o hacer un trabajo y te reconocen?

—Es increíble, porque la gente se sorprende. Nosotros vamos a cualquier lugar de Capital Federal y alrededores. Y los clientes se ponen contentos al ver que soy yo, el de la tele, el que llega a sus casas para darles un servicio de calidad.
