Hay que recordar que, debido al acto de asunción del nuevo presidente de Brasil, Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva, se retrasó la puesta en marcha del velatorio de la leyenda del fútbol de Brasil tres veces campeón del mundo con la Verdeamarela. El cuerpo fue trasladado desde la clínica al recinto deportivo durante la madrugada por la carretera y contó con escolta de policías antidisturbios. Una vez que se cumplan las 24 horas establecidas para despedir al ídolo popular, arrancará la caravana hasta el Memorial Necrópole Ecumenica.
Dicho lugar es un reconocido cementerio que tiene un detalle particular: está construido en vertical y desde 1991 es parte de los Récord Guinness por ser el más alto del mundo. Según informaron distintos medios brasileños, hace dos décadas Pelé eligió este lugar e incluso allí descansan los restos de su hermano.
