Santa Cruz cayó de espaldas en la esquina del ring y permaneció así durante algo más de un minuto mientras los médicos lo atendían. Luego pudo sentarse e incluso sonrió una vez que recuperó sus sentidos.

En el combate de este sábado, desde el primer round ambos boxeadores salieron con fuego cruzado, con cierto castigo del mexicano Cruz sobre el estadounidense. Con dominio intercalado entre uno y otro, se repartieron los primeros cinco asaltos.
Pero al principio del sexto, el mexicano Santa Cruz comenzó a ceder y Gervonta pegó sólido y, cuando parecía terminar el round, apareció un ascendente de izquierda espectacular del local que envió a la lona al mexicano para el conteo final.
Con el triunfo, Gervonta Davis se consolidó como uno de los mejores peleadores libra por libra en la actualidad, mientras Leo Santa Cruz demostró un gran corazón de guerrero.
Los organizadores permitieron una entrada limitada de unos 10.000 espectadores en el Alamodome de San Antonio, que cumplieron con el uso de mascarillas y el distanciamiento físico requerido por el coronavirus.
