Desde su pelea ante Conor McGregor del 2017, que alcanzó las 4,3 millones de ventas en Pay-Per-View (PPV), Floyd empezó con esta tendencia de buscar oponentes fuera del boxeo, que ahora ya ha cruzado incluso las fronteras del deporte. Por eso se medirá ante un inexperto rival que colabora con sus intereses: los promotores esperan que las ventas del PPV, a un precio de USD 49,99 en Estados Unidos, lleguen a los dos millones.
Logan Paul es un joven de 26 años que construyó su fama y se hizo millonario con vlogs diarios en Internet. Junto a su hermano Jake han empezado a incursionar en el boxeo. En el caso de Logan, se enfrentó al youtuber británico KSI en Manchester en agosto de 2018 en una pelea terminó en empate. Ambos luego acordaron una “revancha”, que tuvo un tono más profesional y se celebró en noviembre de 2019 en el Staples Center de Los Ángeles. Aquella derrota fue la única presentación oficial que registra, sin embargo fue un evento con tanto éxito que captó la atención de una leyenda como Floyd Mayweather.

Por su parte, Logan Paul, de 26 años, es peso crucero y ha registrado 189,5 libras (85,9 kg) al pasar por la balanza. Además de la brecha en los pesos y la edad, la estrella de las redes sociales también 15 centímetros más alto que el legendario púgil.
“Si gano, será la mayor sorpresa en la historia de los deportes de combate. Si Mayweather gana, a nadie le importará. Bien hecho, hermano, habrás ganado a un youtuber”, disparó Logan Paul para calentar el espectáculo durante una sesión fotográfica en Miami, un evento que estuvo caldeado porque Mayweather se peleó antes con el hermano de su rival. “Esta no es la pelea más grande de mi vida: es la más grande de su vida. La cartelera principal será integrada por peleas con otros ex campeones mundiales como Badou Jack o Jarrett Hurd, que se enfrentarán a Dervin Colina y Luis Arias, respectivamente. También contará con la participación de Chad Johnson, ex jugador de la NFL, que hará una exhibición en el peso crucero ante Brian Maxwell, quien pelea en el Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
