Su provincia ha sido el comienzo de esta selección ganadora. Desde que jugamos el partido de eliminatorias con Chile en el Madre de Ciudades, con el ‘Dibu’ (Martínez) por primera vez, fue el puntapié inicial para que nuestra selección gane su primera competencia que fue la Copa América.
La verdad que en estos dos años hemos logrado títulos para el deporte argentino, para nuestra selección, que hacía muchísimo que no los conseguíamos. Queremos muchísimo su casa, que también es la casa de la selección, por lo que digo… Tenemos un gran recuerdo que acá comenzó la época en la cual la selección ganó todo. Quería aprovechar para decirle que si usted nos da la posibilidad de recibirnos el 28, jugaremos acá con Curazao el segundo partido amistoso de la selección argentina», expresó Tapia en rueda de prensa.
«Va a ser un inmenso honor para el pueblo santiagueño y para esta región del país. Vamos a estar muy felices de recibirlos», respondió Zamora ante el anuncio.
«Chiqui» destacó el vínculo de la selección con la gente. «Gran parte del enamoramiento que hay con la selección fue que haya jugado en el interior, que haya podido estar cerca de toda la gente de nuestro país, porque lo hemos hecho así en estos cinco años. Nosotros también tenemos una esencia dirigencial, que nació antes de nuestra conducción. El haber asumido acá, en la segunda reunión de AFA, con grandes miembros de la provincia que me acompañan en la conducción son el fiel reflejo de la provincia», comentó.
El dirigente añadió: «La alegría es para la gente. Yo creo que la selección argentina logró ir partido a partido, teniendo un reconocimiento mayor con los jóvenes, con los más grandes, con todos los argentinos y argentinas.
