Movimientos sísmicos en la provincia de San Juan

Con una magnitud 5.1 sacudió la provincia .

El Instituto Nacional de Prevención Sísmica (INPRES) reportó este miércoles dos movimientos sísmicos con epicentro en la provincia cuyana pero el último fue el más fuerte. 

Dos sismos de diferente magnitud ocurrieron este miércoles en San Juan y llegaron a sentirse en las provincias de Mendoza y La Rioja, e incluso en Chile. Uno de los temblores superó los 5,1 grados en la escala de Richter.

El Instituto Nacional de Prevención Sísmica (INPRES) reportó en la jornada de ayer precisiones sobre los terremotos que tuvieron su epicentro en San Juan.

El primero ocurrió a las 20:18 de la noche. El epicentro fue a 14 kilómetros al esta de la localidad de Caucete a una profundidad de 116 kilómetros. De una magnitud de 4,3 grados se sintió en la capital sanjuanina pero incluso fue percibido a 148 kilómetros en la provincia de Mendoza.

El último temblor ocurrió a última hora de este miércoles. Pasadas las 23.30, el nuevo sismo fue más extenso superando los 5 grados de magnitud, y contó con una profundidad de 122 kilómetros. Según precisó el Instituto Nacional de Prevención Sísmica, el epicentro ocurrió en la localidad de Barreal, a 52 kilómetros al sudeste de Calingasta.

La magnitud que tuvo el último movimiento sísmico superó ampliamente al sucedido tres horas antes en Caucete. Con 5,1 grados en la escala de Richter, lo llegaron a percibir mendocinos durante aproximadamente un minuto y también se sintió en la provincia de La Rioja. Medios chilenos informaron que se sintió en el país vecino.

A través de la cuenta de Twitter @ChileAlertaApp se informó a última hora: “El sismo que detectamos hace un momento tiene una magnitud posible de 3.6 a 3.9 cerca de las regiones Tarapacá y Arica y Parinacota”.

La provincia cuyana se encuentra emplazada sobre una falla geológica que la pone en alerta ante el riesgo de sismos. A partir del grado 5, los terremotos se consideran como de magnitud moderada y pueden llegar a causar daños en edificios mal construidos y en grandes construcciones.
