Unicef alertó que más de un millón de niños y adolescentes saltean una de las comidas

En los mismos hogares donde no alcanza el dinero, hubo un aumento de adolescentes que desertaron de la escuela por buscar trabajo y tres millones de adultos tampoco completan las ingestas.

Más de un millón de niñas, niños y adolescentes en Argentina dejaron de alimentarse con alguna comida por falta de dinero. La cifra asciende a tres millones en el caso de adultos, que se saltearon el desayuno, el almuerzo, la merienda o la cena porque no le alcanzan sus ingresos. Esto también impactó en la reducción de alimentos como carne ( bajó un 67%), y frutas, verduras y lácteos ( un 40%). Son cifras de la última encuesta de UNICEF publicada este miércoles.

La Encuesta Rápida sobre la situación de la niñez y adolescencia 2022, finalizada a fines de junio, indica que el 7% de los niños, niñas y adolescentes argentinos se saltea alguna de las comidas principales, una cifra que asciende al 23% en el caso de los adultos. Así lo explicó Sebastián Waisgrais, especialista en Inclusión Social de UNICEF Argentina, en una conferencia de prensa este mediodía.

“Lo vemos en los barrios donde los adultos dejan de comer para que lo hagan los chicos. Así y todo, siendo una situación de vulnerabilidad, no alcanza para que los chicos puedan tener todas las comidas necesarias para su pleno desarrollo. Este 7% aumenta cuando los hogares reciben apoyos alimentarios, que están endeudados, que reciben la Asignación Universal por Hijo (AUH) o la Tarjeta Alimentar”, afirmó.

El informe muestra que 1 de cada 3 hogares no puede cubrir sus gastos corrientes, se trata de dos millones de familias a las que no les alcanzan los ingresos. Sin embargo, no es algo que afecta solo a las personas desempleadas, también abarca a un 30% de los hogares donde el jefe o jefa está ocupado e, incluso, a un 19% de los hogares donde están ocupados de manera formal. En ese contexto, 1 de cada 2 no puede solventar los gastos escolares, como la compra de libros y útiles.

Las cifras se profundizan en los lugares con mayor vulnerabilidad y monomarentales. “Ese 50% que tiene dificultades aumenta al 65% en hogares que reciben la AUH o que son más numerosos. Esto impacta más en aquellos que están en mayor situación de vulnerabilidad, que tienen endeudamiento”, indicó el sociólogo.

Ante esta situación, las familias dejan de realizar otras actividades o recurren a préstamos de familiares o entidades formales e informales para poder comprar alimentos: uno de cada cuatro hogares dejó de ir al médico, un 30% tuvo que recurrir a ahorros o al pedido de dinero a familiares y el 20% se endeudó.

En este último caso, se trata de vínculos con organismos como ANSES, bancos o prestamistas informales. En los sectores más acomodados de la pirámide distributiva, las familias recurren a comprar comida con la tarjeta de crédito. Además, 2 de cada 10 hogares dejaron de pagar servicios como luz, gas, teléfono, celular o internet. Esta situación asciende al 33% en aquellos donde se percibe la AUH y al 24% en los que están a cargo de una mujer.

La compra de carne: lo primero que se suprime

En aquellos hogares que reducen la compra de alimentos por la falta de dinero, la carne es lo primero que se suprime y aumentan los carbohidratos como pan o fideos. “Hay una sustitución de consumo de alimentos asociado al nivel de precios”, indicó Waisgrais.

Desde UNICEF alertaron sobre el impacto que estos indicadores nutricionales tienen también en aspectos de la vida cotidiana de niños, niñas y adolescentes como el escolar y en la introducción temprana al ámbito laboral.

“Nos preocupan los problemas económicos, hay reducción de consumo y tiene efectos directos. No solo en lo personal, sino también en lo general. Hay una cadena de consecuencias. En los hogares que suspendieron una comida, se nota un aumento de adolescentes que buscan trabajo y eso afecta la deserción escolar. Es una cadena”, afirmó Olga Isaza, representante adjunta de UNICEF Argentina.

El estudio indica que 1 de cada 4 adolescentes realiza actividades orientadas al mercado, eso sumado a los que buscan trabajo genera un 35% de personas de este grupo etario que está económicamente activa. “Aumenta en los hogares que tienen deudas, donde los adolescentes buscan trabajo para completar los ingresos. Eso tiene un impacto negativo en la asistencia escolar”, agregó Isaza.

Este documento ya fue presentado al presidente Alberto Fernández y al ministro de Economía, Sergio Massa. Desde el organismo pidieron proteger las partidas presupuestarias de las variaciones inflacionarias. “Es fundamental fortalecer las políticas de protección social: para alcanzar la universalidad y para tener mecanismos de compensación que se acomoden con la variación de ingresos. Es imprescindible proteger el presupuesto para chicos, nunca pueden ser la variable de ajuste en la economía”, sostuvo la representante de UNICEF.

Las mujeres son las más sobrecargadas 

En el informe se analiza puntualmente la situación de las mujeres: sufrieron más las situaciones de inestabilidad que los hombres; un 56% contra un 38% respectivamente. En cuanto a la cuota alimentaria, el 51% no recibe el pago por parte del padre y la cifra se eleva a 66% si considera a quienes la reciben de manera irregular. La situación empeora en los quintiles más pobres.

Con respecto a las tareas del hogar, el 48% de las mujeres de más de 18 años siente una mayor sobrecarga. Las principales razones están vinculadas a los cuidados de hijos e hijas (21%), limpieza de la casa (24%), ayuda con las tareas escolares (10%), preparación de la comida (18%). Esta sobrecarga choca con la actividad laboral por lo que, muchas veces, son los hermanos o hermanas mayores quienes se encargan de cuidar a los demás. Incluso, aumentaron los casos de menores que quedan solos: un 13%, cifra que aumenta a 17% en los hogares monomarentales.
