El embajador de los Estados Unidos en Buenos Aires, Marc Stanley expresó su preocupación por el avance del régimen chino en la región y especialmente en la Argentina al participar de una conferencia de prensa en Washington junto a Jorge Argüello, el delegado oficial del gobierno nacional en la capital norteamericana.
Durante su exposición, el diplomático norteamericano aseguró que los Estados Unidos necesita tener “más herramientas” para competir con China y ayudar a la Argentina. “No hay nada de malo de comerciar con China. Nosotros estamos deseosos de competir con China, pero en una cancha equilibrada”, aclaró Stanley.
“Una cosa que aprendí en Argentina es que se necesitan dos para bailar tango y creo que nuestro país necesita estar más comprometido. Yo creo que necesitamos más herramientas para ser más competitivos con China en muchas instancias y no temo en decirle esto a los senadores, les digo eso a todos”, expresó junto al embajador argentino Argüello, quienes juntos brindaron una conferencia de prensa en el InterAmerican Dialogue, en Washington, en donde profundizaron sobre la relación bilateral argentino-estadounidense que este año cumple 200 años.
En esta charla, moderada por la directora de la organización, Rebecca Bill Chavez, el estadounidense remarcó que la Argentina debe definir “dónde quiere que juege Estados Unidos: ¿en agricultura, minerales, capital humano, desarrollo nuclear?”, preguntó. Y agregó: “Creo que debemos permitir que países como Argentina, que es un país de ingresos de nivel medio, califiquen para otros incentivos bancarios, que podamos ir al Banco Mundial y otros bancos internacionales y obtener oportunidades porque, a menudo, son para los países de ingresos más bajos. Debemos reevaluar la situación a pesar de que Argentina es un país de ingresos de nivel medio, me refiero a un país que está experimentando un 43% de pobreza y que todavía tiene estos desafíos ante la falta de recursos en el Banco Central. “Cuando llegué a Argentina por primera vez, no habría tenido la capacidad de ayudar a vender F-16 al país. Y entonces, parecía que China iba a tener la opción predeterminada allí, pero nuestro gobierno se movió y ahora tenemos un paquete sobre el que hemos estado hablando con los argentinos que es muy competitivo, y el que diría que los militares en Argentina probablemente lo podrían preferir”, agregó.
El diplomático también expresó su preocupación por la licitación de la red 5G, que podría quedar en manos de Huawei y al comercio de litio en Argentina. “Estamos trabajando muy duro para encontrar la manera de permitir que las compañías se beneficien con la Ley de Reducción de Inflación en lo que se refiere a la producción de minerales en Argentina. Este país no es el único afectado por esto y tenemos que seguir trabajando para que ello no ocurra. Estamos tratando de solucionarlo cuanto antes. Concuerdo en que es muy importante”, dijo Stanley.
Además expresó que “uno de los desafíos que tenemos los que lideran nuestros gobiernos es que a menudo estamos apagando incendios ahora mismo en Ucrania, en Irán en Corea del Norte, en China, en Taiwán, en el hemisfério de grandes incendios como Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Cuba, Haití. Estoy de acuerdo en que las acciones tienen consecuencias y la inacción tienen consecuencias y necesitamos más herramientas”, repitió.
