La Municipalidad de San Miguel de Tucumán definió soldar las tapas de acceso en los postes de alumbrado público para frenar el robo del cableado. Así lo explicó Carlos Arnedo, secretario de Servicios Públicos de la Ciudad, en una entrevista con Café Prensa: «se ha profundizado el robo de cables subterráneos de alumbrado público en las avenidas. Hay una boca de registro de las columnas para revisar cuando algo falla. Ahí sacan el cable de la acometida y empiezan a tirar para sacar el cableado subterráneo. Para evitar esto, soldamos la tapa a la columna. Lo hicimos en el 80% de los postes de la ciudad, que tiene más o menos 14.000 puntos lumínicos. Donde todavía no lo hicimos seguimos padeciendo el robo de cables. Y a la luz del día. Nos sorprende porque sufrimos vandalismo y robos hasta en la plaza Independencia, donde se llevaron un banco».
Arnedo planteó que la vandalización y el robo de mobiliario urbano supone un problema en la gestión: «a veces inauguramos una obra, revalorizamos una plaza, y a las 48 horas ya hay daños o robos. Esto de los postes de luz es un dolor de cabeza porque si hay un daño en el aplique lumínico, debemos ir con una amoladora para poder sacar la tapa y revisarlo o cambiarlo. Implica un gasto elevado a la Ciudad también porque en este contexto, el mantenimiento también se ha encarecido. Un aplique led ahora cuesta 80.000 pesos. Lo que sorprende es que la Policía aún no pudo tener la suerte de detener a estos grupos que roban cables, pero sí la guarda municipal. Tienen un equipamiento de primera… lo que nos falta encontrar es dónde venden este material», expuso el funcionario. Defendió, como forma de preservar el mobiliario urbano, la experiencia de la plaza cerrada del parque El Provincial.
